Poem ~ The Dragon

You may think I’m just a

a fifteenth-year-old girl

with Curly brown hair

and  Bright amber  eyes

But I am more than that

not a Shark or a Rose

not a Storm nor a Butterfly

A Dragon

a stout, vengeful Dragon

when I’m drowning fury

the world shakes in my wake

or alone in vast expanses

I am a Dragon

full of rage

with clashing Wraith

mass Chaos and Grace

But when I’m Calm

my wings open up

and I take to the sky

Blue skies against amber scales

Peace rises to the occasion

and villagers reappear

I soar above the clouds

Claws scraping against the atmosphere

Twisting and Spiraling

surprising others with roars of happiness

I begin to Descend

A Wyvern’s cat eyes fall to the surface

Until I get tired

that’s where the flight ends

Until I must sigh and start again

Clashing

Soaring

Over and

Over again

The brown-hair amber-eyed girl

Is a dragon

A Beautiful, Loved, Dangerous Dragon

All in One Flight

Expository Essay ~ The Advantages and Disadvantages of Immortality

Greek gods, smiting mortals with reckless, everlasting power, reaping the benefits of living forever. Whether a mythical god or a substitute teacher, living a long life is top priority for many, humanity in general strives for longer lives. Though there are both advantages and disadvantages of practical immortality, like the ability to educate the newer generations and the death of loved ones.

Eventually, everyone must think of the next generation of wibbly-wobbly-touch-everything babies and children to come, making us wonder how they will grow and the type of world they will live in. Living for a long period of time would allow one to watch over newer generations as they grow and change, elders the chance to educate “them youngsters” on proper ways of doing things as well as ensuring history doesn’t repeat itself through younger souls. For Example, the world’s oldest person, Jeralean Talley at 115 years of age watches over her great-great-great grandchildren with the longevity of a woman half her age. Keeping her family on their tippy-toes, one does not simply live through two wars, famine, and death without a strong head on her shoulders. Educating her descendants of their heritage seems to be of utmost importance to Jeralean by keeping their morals straight through love, discipline, and hardships. Likewise, one could also assume with older and older people around, younger people could learn lost skills like weaving, sewing, and wood Windling. These skills may seem pointless but with the right teacher, possibilities are endless.

Death is a part of everyday life, but those with longer life spans would be typically forced to undergo much more from the pain and death of those they love. For Example, Pittacus James who lived to be 103 years old, was forced to bury his son, who died in a head-on collision at 43 years old. Pittacus later entered a nursing home, unable to stand life without his son. Though nothing compares to the death of a child, others are also best friends, parents, spouses as well as the burning regret, angry desire, and dark remorse that comes with it. In addition, Kings of ancient Greece once worshiped long, prosperous, fulfilled lives, To the extent that they actually had the ones they loved sacrificed to Hebe, the goddess of youth, in an attempt to stay young. No one by far would go to such measures to stay young today with new-fangled-age-disappearing-elixirs and age-forget-me-not-creams.

In conclusion, Indeed Greek gods with the immortal tinge and humans with our longer lives have instilled a better sense of humanity through our elderly. Long life does have it’s pro’s and con’s, like the ability to teach younger generations and the loss of loved ones, through loss and education seem pressing we as humans have those rights.

Expository Essay ~ How Fear affects People’s Lives

Explosions and gunfire pepper the air with the terrifying noises of war, as army men storm abandoned buildings, fear gripping their every cell. Though not everyone has seen war, fear is one emotion we all have in common. Allowing the ability to understand danger, while also pushing us towards self-preservation and an easier sense of being.

Panic causes those usually calm and collected to blank, but by controlling it, one could gain an important ability. For example, a wise man named Simon Sinek once stated “Panic causes tunnel vision, acceptance of Danger allows one to more easily assess the situation.”Sinek’s words mean that by understanding the danger it allows fear to disappear like a ghost in the night. Likewise, Lauren Weisberger, an American novelist, once said “There is no danger you can’t allay.”In other words, that if one make fear their ally, they could go further in life than if they allowed fear control their being. Further emphasizes on fear as a whole, it also allows humanity as a unit to persevere over threats and other species.

Fear instills the ability to preserve one’s self from death and injury. For Example, a man walking through the vacant streets of Austin, when he comes to a dark alley. Fear stops him from proceeding, saving him from the gunman in the dark, though the odds of this happening are 1 in 34,271 thousand. The level of self-preservation doesn’t change nor does the fact that it was fear that kept these people safe. Similarly, Andrew Marvell said in a book of his “Self-Preservation is nature’s first law, for all creatures even man.” The meaning behind this is simple , even though we are more advanced, humans still feel the same animalistic fear in the form of panic, caused by danger, and pushing us towards self-preservation.

In conclusion, we may not work day and night on the battlefield of war, but fear is still a part of our everyday lives bringing with it panic and allowing self-preservation.

Expository Essay ~ Extreme Emotions

Ever feel a nearly overwhelming sudden urge to take action? This is called Impulse and can be incredibly dangerous at times, like when one is in a moment of extreme emotion. Though these happen on a daily basis, it is best to know how to deal with such emotions, because if one does it helps them achieve a better understanding as well as a higher level of happiness.

Dealing with extreme emotions is important especially since it gives people a better understanding towards their actions and others. For example, a boy is furious over failing a test, but by finding self-control, was able to ask the teacher and realize what how did wrong, allowing him to understand better and ace the next test on the subject. While this seems like a simple fix, those feeling, those emotions might not understand how such feelings impact their person. To illustrate, a girl, Anna, is under extreme stress and sadness, also known as depression, from the loss of a loved one. One would say it’s easy to cure depression, but like fury most extreme emotions are difficult to overcome. But if Anna can do so, through support and family, Anna will feel happier, than she’s probably ever felt. Like the Boy and Anna, both depression and fury are extreme emotions , and may be hard to control, but if one can it will lead to a better understanding.

Happiness is something most people strive for, but when a person must deal with extreme emotions it brings more hardships than one should have to handle, so controlling them is essential to having a higher level of happiness. For example, a mother is having to deal with her four rowdy, hormonal teenagers, any normal person would’ve snapped beyond repair, but not her. The reason is because she learned to control her emotions at a young age, realizing there was more to life than quiet and calmness, and that she would much rather be happy and sane, then furious and bloodthirsty. Lastly, let’s imagine, a couple newly married, is moving into their dream house. The husband is carrying box in, as the wife unpacked. On the Man’s mind was a high level of anxiety and panic as he lifted the boxes off the truck. Wondering if they can really afford a house this nice and other expenses that came with it bills, insurance, etc. Though his worry was well placed it is best to look beyond anxiety and panic as well as extreme emotions like them, because by worrying a little less the Man realizes that he has nothing to worry about. Though one may never be in such situations, it is always better to look beyond the “Scary looking Fury” and “Nail-biting Anxiety” and see that happiness grows as the extreme emotions shrink.

In Conclusion, extreme emotions may be difficult to overcome and understand due to the Impulsiveness of the human mind. But by doing so one can reap the rewards that are well worth the time, achieving a better understanding and a happier life are just two of them.
